Kurinjikallu peak is a lesser-known peak situated at an altitude of 3803 feet in the Kudremukh national park at Mudigere Taluk, Chikmagalur. This peak is situated in the Western Ghats and is also known as one of the highest peaks in the Western Ghats. The trek difficulty is moderate and can be done by anyone, but past trekking experiences will give you an added advantage.

The trek poses quite some challenges but once you reach the topmost point its pure ecstasy. The place fills you up with tranquility and serenity. The total trekking distance is around 14kms. This trek is perfect for a weekend trek as you can finish in just 2 days!

Surrounded by vast greenery and mesmerizing landscapes, Kurinjikallu peak trek gives you one of the best trekking experiences ever. You can experience trekking through the beautiful rainforest, gushing streams and the enticing misty mountains. Seasons & Best time to visit
  • Monsoon - June to August : The best time to visit Kudremukh or any other peaks in the Western Ghats is during the monsoon season. Monsoon treks get challenging and exhilarating. The whole forests and mountain ranges just flourish with greenery with leeches for your company and you get to witness the beautiful misty landscapes.
  • Post Monsoon - September to January: The skies can be covered with mist with play of passing clouds and can be clear with bright sunlight. Nights getting cold.
  • Pre Monsoon : The skies will be clear with hot sun; however, canopy walk and cool breeze will make your walk less tiring.

Itinerary:
Day one - Depart from Bangalore, Overnight Journey.
You will start the journey at night from Bangalore. You will meet at a pre-decided spot and board the vehicle. It will be an overnight journey.
Meet and Greet. Start precisely at 4:00 pm from Bangalore. Trek leader will brief you about trek itinerary and engage everyone in Ice breaking session. Stop for Dinner at Tiptur. After passing through Sharavathi WLS Around 2:30 Am reach hamlet of Kattinakaru in the wee hours. A short power nap till sun rises up.
Day two - Reach Campsite/stay. Have Breakfast, after briefing start the trek start and explore. Reach campsite/ stay, campfun. Overnight stay.
6:00 Am After reaching Kudremukh you can check in to Bagavathi Nature camp /Similar stay. Refresh and have breakfast, pack up, carry snacks for trail and set out for the trek. After a briefing session. You drive 2 kms further from the stay , as you move ahead you will come across the Bhadra river. You will be entering the reserve forest of Kudremukh National park. There is a small narrow bridge for you to cross the wild stream. As you move ahead the vegetation gets thicker with tall trees all around you covered in mist.
Soon the ascends starts, trails go through an open terrain for some time. The view gets more and more mesmerizing as you move along the trail, there is lush greenery all around you, the sounds of the birds chirping, the water streams, everything about the place is undeniably relaxing. Moving along the trail you will come across a dense forest region again with nothing but tall trees all around you. Sunlight passing through the branches of these trees is a sight to see.
Soon you will reach a network point where the Kurinjikallu peak will be in your line of sight. When its monsoon, climbing the peak will be a bit of a task as the climb is very steep and rocks will be very slippery. It's advised to keep your camera in your bags safely during the climb.Once you reach the top point you can see a whole lot of the Kudremukh national park, beautiful landscapes filled with mist and greenery all around will fill your soul with tranquility and serenity. Descending will seem to be an easier task than ascending, still, maintain caution while descending. You can make it back to the campsite by noon.
2:00 Pm Hot buffet lunch at Stay - Where you can enjoy day meal and refill your energy batteries. Rejeauvate in the streams close by and Refreshments and campfun as it gets dark. Hot Dinner and exchange stories. Retire for the day.
Day three - Explore surroundings. Breakfast. Visit places of interest enroute. Lunch enroute. Reach Bangalore.
Go on a nature walk. After breakfast. Once you are well-rested and packing to backpacks. You can visit pre decided place and pass through Kudremukh town. Enroute Lunch at Hassan. 8:00 Pm Reach Bangalore by night.
Optional Activity - White water rafting in River Bhadra (Extra INR 1200/- per person)

Important Information:
Things To Carry
  • 1 pair of Shoes : Carry well broken/used Shoes with good Sole & ankle protection and that will sustain usage during the trek. Avoid wearing new shoes to avoid bite and blisters.
  • 1 Backpack : Light Weighted & approx 30 litres in volume with multiple pouches,good zip & straps.
  • Clothing & Toiletries : For your daily usage
  • 1 Jacket : Early mornings and nights can get really cold.
  • 1 Cap/hat : help in protecting your head and face from direct sunlight during treks.
  • 1 Water bottle : carry some reusable water bottles along.
  • 1 Towel : quick dry light towel.
  • 1 Head lamp / Torch : Keep it handy and use it only required.
  • 1 Personal Medical Kit : Carry few tablets such as crocin, Paracetamol, Band aid, cotton. ORS satchets. Glucose, Volini spray and crape bandage.
  • 1 Medic Kit : always pack a first-aid kit in case things go the other way.
  • 2 Batteries: Carry recharged spare batteries.
  • Gloves : Gloves that will keep your palms warm during extreme cold.
  • 1 Whistle : Whistle for signalling and use in times of distress only.
  • 1 Sun glasses : Carry tested and right one to protect from harsh Sunlight only.
  • Sleeping Bag : At times, there might be extreme cold and the camp beds might not be good enough to give you a good night’s sleep. It is better if you have your own warm sleeping bag.
  • Mobile : Use if for communication only. Check with trek coordinator of network availibility carry BSNL SIM if required.
  • 1 Poly Bags : To carry trash and wet clothes.
  • 1 ID Proof : Carry Photo ID proof DL / Voter Id/ similar.
